Etan Thomas update

Of course I'm concerned for the well-being of Wizards center Etan Thomas, who underwent open heart surgery yesterday. But I can also be concerned with the salary cap ramifications without being a horrible human being. According to Wizards Insider (the best blog I've read dealing with a single team), the Wizards can get a salary cap exception for half of Thomas's salary, which would be about $3 million, with a league-approved doctor's approval. Michael Lee also floats a rumor that the team reached out to P.J. Brown, who says he only wants to play for Dallas, San Antonio, or Detroit, which honestly makes me hate the NBA. There's only a few teams where free agents want to play; it's like they hate capitalism.
