More important to the United States: Columbus or Favre?

The House of Representatives is expected to honor Brett Favre for being a God among mortals, just in time for the huge Redskins/Packers game Sunday, the winner of which will have a huge leg up for the 2 seed in the NFC. Don't get me wrong - Favre belongs in the same breath as Montana, Unitas, and Elway - but isn't the constant fawning over him a bit over the top? Frank Caliendo's career is based on his impression of Madden and his adoration of Favre:

I wrote you a poem...
Roses are red
Violets are blue
I might like football
But I love you

Joesportsfan posted a list of the 7 most ridiculous Brett Favre related media quotes in the last month on Friday. Chris Berman suggested that Favre's birthday, October 10, be declared a National Holiday. Perhaps replacing Columbus Day. If the government is focused on honoring him, is Favre Day really that far off?
